Area Information
Mountainair is a blossoming small town on the eastern slope of the Manzano
Mountains. At an altitude of 6500 feet, the climate consists of cool summer
nights, Indian summer days, and mild sunny winter days. Mountainair offers
a small town living atmosphere with art galleries, restaurants, grocery
stores, public library, senior citizen center, medical facility, churches,
and public schools. Mountain recreation in the Cibola National Forest is
at your doorstep. Dubbed “Gateway to the Ancient Cities”, Mountainair
is at the center of the Salinas National Monument, a preservation of the
most complete set of 17th century Indian pueblo ruins (Gran Quivira, Abo,
and Quarai) remaining in the United States. 20 miles south of Gran Quivira
Estates on State Hwy 55 sits the closest pueblo ruin, Gran Quivira.
